Who said Bush was ‘anti-science’?

To set the record straight, George W. Bush was the first president to propose federal funding for stem cell research. As Secretary of Health and Human Services Tommy Thompson said in August of 2004, “President Bush provided — for the first time — federal funding of embryonic stem cell research. The president’s unprecedented decision allows for federal funding of research using existing stem cell lines that were derived before Aug. 9, 2001, with no limits on private funding of research.”

Not exactly an anti-science position, is it?

To the extent that limitations were placed on federal funding, it was because of the ethics involved, not the science. Acting on the recommendation of a blue-ribbon commission that looked at the issue for some time, the president decided it would be unethical — in the moral sense, not the legal one — to act as those who believe embryonic stem cell research holds the cure to everything that ails us would have had him do.

So I swore off politics because I don’t want this blog to be my political rant. However, occasionally, I still feel the need to pass things along.

For example, our President thinks he is God’s gift to mankind. I don’t envy his job, however it is a bit petty to talk down about anyone who disagrees with you. Especially in politics, where there is always room for debate. So much for being ‘bipartisan’ as he congratulates Specter’s switch to his party.

Anyhow, to stay on point, Obama recently criticized ‘news stations that don’t like him’ and the conservative tea party protests in one sentence. (And I am ignoring the fact that he claims he has NO RESPONSIBILITY for the deficit.)

If you can’t see it, go here.

Blast! I am becoming one of those bloggers who just rant about politics. . . I don’t want to do that, but politics are the hot topic these days. Plus, I haven’t posted in a while and this is something I can slap up quickly.

Sorry, we will be back to the regularly scheduled programming (i.e. my life) when I have time to breathe (i.e. when I am done with my classes), plus I don’t like myself as a political commentator. read on! »

I voted. I prayed. And now I trust.

Whatever happens, God is in control.

Romans 8:28-35

And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the likeness of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers. And those he predestined, he also called; those he called, he also justified; those he justified, he also glorified. read on! »
