This past fall, Jeremy and I built a 24×24 garage. Yup. From the ground up. That included taking out a couple of trees (One by ourselves and the other we brought in professionals). We did everything ourselves except for the concrete foundation and slab and the door installation. Once the garage was up we could finally get rid of the ugly little red shed that was rotting and contained mice nests and tons of spider egg sacks.
I have lots pictures and such, but with finishing up my masters, actually building the garage, shooting weddings with the lovely Mandy Sroka and then the holidays, I just haven’t had a chance to get them up. Jeremy has put up some updates on his website, lots of photos in his gallery, and the complete story including comments from the peanut gallery can be viewed here at the garage journal.
Jeremy also put together some really awesome videos
During the building, we tried to film most of the building, mostly just on weekends since we only had a few hours of daylight during the week. So here Jeremy compiled all the video together in a nice little overview. We took out footage where we are working on the backside of the garage ’cause there would be nothing to see. Also, some days we forgot to set up the camera and one day the power went out so the filming only lasted as long as the battery once the power was cut.
Jeremy also put together a cute little video of us tearing down the shed. It was not as dramatic as I had hoped. Mainly ’cause the ground was a bit muddy. We were glad that we got it down when we did, though cause the next weekend it SNOWED! Yeah, blizzard of ’09!
Our most heartfelt thanks to all those who pitched in and helped. Jeremy’s brother, Whit, helped the most. Jared, Billy, Madison, my dad (Tim), and Jeremy’s mom (Glenda) also put in many hours as well as Rowan (Whit’s wife) and Jeremy’s grandfather, Homer. We couldn’t have done it without you!

Wow, Bev! I just spent the last 30 minutes reading all of the content you guys put together about building your garage! Looks awesome! I hope Lauren and I can have some space like that someday when we finally get a house. Way to go!
Thanks, Jeff! We had fun! I am glad that we could provide you with some entertaining time wasters. :0)
