After standing in freakishly long lines to buy a metro ticket and after an hour fifteen metro ride, we finally arrived at the Restoring Honor rally at the Lincoln Memorial in D.C. just before the starting time at 10AM. Armed with lots of water and my stalker lenses, I tried to get some fun shots of the festivities. Enjoy!

Who am I?
That the Lord of all the earth,
Would care to know my name,
Would care to feel my hurt.
Who am I?
That the bright and morning star,
Would choose to light the way,
For my ever wandering heart.

This past weekend the counter on my camera rolled over, meaning that I have taken over 10000 photos with my camera since I got it, about a year ago on September 27th, 2008. (Of course, Jeremy stole my camera occasionally. )

My camera hit 10,000 photos while shooting Mark and Lindsay’s wedding with Mandy!

Who said Bush was ‘anti-science’?

To set the record straight, George W. Bush was the first president to propose federal funding for stem cell research. As Secretary of Health and Human Services Tommy Thompson said in August of 2004, “President Bush provided — for the first time — federal funding of embryonic stem cell research. The president’s unprecedented decision allows for federal funding of research using existing stem cell lines that were derived before Aug. 9, 2001, with no limits on private funding of research.”

Not exactly an anti-science position, is it?

To the extent that limitations were placed on federal funding, it was because of the ethics involved, not the science. Acting on the recommendation of a blue-ribbon commission that looked at the issue for some time, the president decided it would be unethical — in the moral sense, not the legal one — to act as those who believe embryonic stem cell research holds the cure to everything that ails us would have had him do.

Happy Odd Day!

This only happens 6 times a century, apparently. (I haven’t done the math to confirm that yet.!) This is even cooler than Pi day (March 14), since Pi day comes every year, and twice a year if you round. (July 22, since pi ~= 22/7.) Next odd day, I should have a party!

Go do something odd and fun!
